blerb of disturbance...not the best read!
I am disturbed. One of the kids in my class (the one I keep going to) got arrested last nigh...he is 7....7 YEARS OLD and he was proud that he was the youngest that they had ever locked up. He was bragging about it all day.
it isnt the first time hes been arrested either and now theyve started him on a young offenders programme.
Then, we were doing a lesson on ways to keep healthy and one of my kids drew a bong and when I asked him if he knew what it was, he explained in detail how to use it.
THESE CHILDREN ARE SEVEN YEARS OLD!!!!! I was still playing with barbie dolls and getting smacked off my mam for saying the word 'sexy'
What is going on?????? TGhey're just babies really, they shouldn't have to put up with knowing the stuf they know. Thy're naughty and its not their fault...they just don't know any different. I just want to take them home and teach them how to be children. They can't play properly together without beating the crap out of each other. I want to tell them that the world doesn't have to just be as they know it. Thyre like mini screwed up adults, theyre learning all the wrong things. I'm only there a couple of days a week...I just want them to know that I care and if I could change their world, I would. What can I do?
I hate the structure of the curriculum, its so not taylored to meet the needs of children like this...all these standards they have to meet and for what? if there personal and emotional needs aren't met and their social skills and ability to function in society aren't met then other 'knowledge' fed through teaching is useless. I want to teach them to think for themselves. I want togive them experiences that showe there is more so that they actually WANT to learn and achieve, so that they have a goal.
I asked my friends four year old the other day what she wanted to be when she grew up...I expected her to say a pop star or a barbie maker or something, but she told me she was going to go to university and be a dentist. This kid has her head screwed on...and she is fab fun in a childish way so not too old for her years. She has had a good upbringing. Her world is so different from the world of the kids in that class.
this entry is a big blerb of thoughts that if you've read this far, then give yourself a pat on the back. Its boring but I needed a rant and I know that Kevin doesn't want to listen to me going on.
